Grace and elegance are synonymous with France’s capital, and The Peninsula Paris has added its own signature style to the streets of the City of Light. Unforgettable rides along the majestic Parisian boulevards are guaranteed by the only customised hotel automobile collection in Paris, whose diverse drives include a vintage 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II and a classic French 2CV fourgonnette.
A true legend of the road, the hotel’s lovingly restored 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II is the latest milestone in the partnership between The Peninsula and Rolls-Royce, which dates back to company’s first order for seven Silver Shadows in 1970. However, this vintage 1934 Sedanca de Ville town car faced a long journey before it was ready to provide a truly Peninsula style Parisian driving experience.
The original model was styled to its owner’s specific requirements, and eight decades later The Peninsula Paris’ Rolls-Royce Phantom II was entrusted to a team of heritage car craftsmen at Ashton Keynes Vintage Restorations in England. Sir Michael Kadoorie oversaw the detailed refurbishment, which successfully combined the essence of 1930s vintage car design with exquisite modern comforts.
The result is spectacular. Leather hides trim the interior seats and doors, and the burr walnut veneer was carefully selected for its unique natural beauty. A classic radio from the United States was rebuilt with a state-of-the-art Lexicon sound system, and guests can watch movies on two fold-down 12-inch screens, check email via free WiFi and charge their smartphone via USB ports. Air conditioning was installed in the car for the first time, and refreshing drinks can be sipped from the refrigerator and cocktail cabinet.
This vintage Rolls-Royce masterpiece is guaranteed to turn heads while easing along Avenue des Champs-Élysées or Rue de Rivoli – but so, too, do its companion cars in The Peninsula Paris’ collection. A 2014 Extended Wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom boasts several bespoke modifications, including counter-sunk screws in the trunk to eliminate the slightest chance of scratching guests’ luggage, while the flagship BMW 7 Series sedans combine gorgeous contemporary design with world-class intelligent driving.
Perfectly constructed to navigate the narrow Parisian backstreets are two customised Peninsula Edition Mini Cooper S Clubman hardtops. Guests can savour the sport-chic appeal of these iconic cars while enjoying a chauffeur-driven tour of the Paris landmarks and luxury boutiques.
A classic Citroën 2CV fourgonnette adds a whimsical touch of French automobile history to The Peninsula Paris fleet. Originally produced in 1957, this popular van was restored by a specialist workshop in Nice. Finished in signature Peninsula green livery and featuring the original steering wheel and leather upholstery, the eye-catching 2CV makes hotel deliveries around Paris, and pick ups bespoke guest requests.
